FIELD VALIDATION OF THE NATURE CONSERVANCY BENTHIC MAPPING PROJECT

TURKS AND CAICOS 2022

In August of 2022, we worked with Dr. Steve Schill, chief scientist of the Caribbean division of The Nature Conservancy, to validate the Turks and Caicos Islands region of the TNC Benthic Mapping Project. Our report demonstrated significant finding that have helped Dr. Schill to perfect his online maps found at the Allen Coral Atlas.

CITIZEN SCIENCE IN ACTION

BONAIRE 2023

In September 2023, Reef Expeditions traveled to Bonaire, where we worked with STINAPA, their MPA authority, to access the health of their reefs. The team trained seven students in AGRRA methodologies (AGRRA). Then upon arrival, we conducted surveys on fish, benthic, disease and coral coverage at eight reef sites at two depths. Over 70 fish surveys, 40 benthic and 7 coral surveys were conducted, which will be used as a comparitive baseline for future surveys.
